Lindsay Smith joined Waste Farmers in the fall of 2009. Current President of the Green Meeting Industry Council, Colorado Chapter and manager of the Sustainable Program at the Colorado Convention Center, she brings a strong background in sustainable facility operations and event production. Recognizing numerous gaps and inefficiencies in industry, Lindsay began working with Waste Farmers to help implement resource management programs in a way that are both impactful without being cumbersome.

Lindsay began her event career while producing on-mountain events for Vail Resorts. From there, her career in the events industry took her to Denver, Montana and finally Seattle where she decided something was fundamentally wrong with the wasteful event industry. It was with this understanding that she became the first Sustainable Program Manager for a convention facility with her position at the Colorado Convention Center. In her role at the center, she implemented numerous sustainable initiatives resulting in more than $1 million in energy cost savings, the persusal of LEED Existing Building Certification, the Democratic National Convention, and composting. Lindsay is also a founder of the Rocky Mountain Green Venues Partnership, Co-Chair of the APEX Green Meeting Standard, and sits on the Board of Sprout City Denver.

All of these efforts are inspired by Lindsay’s love of nature and being outside, as well as sheer awe at daily natural miracles. Her vision is to educate her community to see the value in all resources and remove the word waste from the dictionary!
