OVERVIEW
Everything we do at Waste Farmers is grounded in the belief that business and industry can be “eco-effective.” Instead of being “less bad,” we can return what we discard to the ecosystem by converting it to viable new products – nutrients that “feed” the soil, industry and people. By functioning in an eco-effective way, we create a closed-loop life cycle where outputs and byproducts become inputs for something else. Compostables, for example, are transformed into bio-based, renewable energy products or vermicompost solids and Compost Tea that enrich the soil, ultimately producing healthy crops to feed people. Aluminum cans are crushed and processed to produce new ones.
The principle of eco-effectiveness is rooted in the systems of the natural world, which are sometimes not efficient at all, but effective. Consider the prairie. Despite long recurrent droughts and occasional torrential rains, prairie grasslands are not subject to great soil erosion. The deep, interconnected root systems of grasses firmly hold the soil in place and prevent runoff. When a plant dies, the fungi, bacteria and the other decomposers slowly eat the roots and leaves, returning nutrients to the soil.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SERVICES
Waste Farmers has created a Resource Management program that allows restaurants, hotels, schools, industrial and manufacturing companies, property managers, construction companies, and other commercial accounts to achieve waste efficiency rates of up to 90%, while paying a price competitive with their current disposal services. Our program supports clients that are new to resource management as well as those ready to take their efforts to the next level. From full-scale composting solutions to paper recycling and beyond, Waste Farmers has the expertise, knowledge and relationships to help clients integrate eco-effective solutions into their operations.
Waste Audits. We will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of your discard stream to establish a baseline and find ways to reduce waste through prevention. These efforts decrease purchasing costs and the amount of material that must be managed for composting, recycling and disposal.
Waste Prevention means using less material to get a job done. Waste prevention methods create less waste in the first place—before composting and recycling. Conventional trash collection contracts are based on volume and provide no incentive for waste reduction. Waste Farmers structures contracts to reward reduction, composting and recycling.
Collection. We’ll responsibly manage your discards, creating a customized resource and materials management program that addresses waste reduction and manages everything you still need to dispose. Learn more about our composting and recycling programs here.
Education, Training and Promotion Waste reduction, composting & recycling are great missions for energizing employees and customers. We’ll train your work force in how to implement your new Resource Management program and its benefits to the world around them. We’ll also help you promote your commitment to the environment across the community, providing static clings for doors and windows and other materials.
Reporting. We’ll establish a baseline, measure progress and calculate the environmental impact of your Waste Farmers Resource Management program. We’ll report to you on waste reduction, the quantity and weight of material diverted from landfills, the resources conserved, and the precise impact your Resource Management program is having on the environment.
